You Had Me At Ice Cream by Angela Pearse and C.G. Lambert
I really enjoyed reading this story of a personal trainer and client, as they consider that they may have something more ahead of them than just gym appointments. This was not the usual boy and girl meet and figure it out, however. I was surprised by the many twists to this journey and - without spoiling anything, the story, much like life - did not go quite the way I expected.
Some interesting bits were the challenges of being single - and not wealthy for that matter - in London, which were made clear throughout. It was refreshing to have MC’s who live as most of us do - with actual expenses - it was relatable. The authors’s love of travel - I checked out their travel blog - shines through Oliver’s character. And it was a pleasure to read about the experience of travel from a real world perspective for a change. You know, as someone who would typically pick the economy seat and carry on luggage rather than make a trip unavailable.
While I originally felt that the progress of a character’s fitness struggles would bore me - I loathe gyms - it was actually inspiring. I also appreciated the represented awkwardness of navigating personal relationships with neurodiversity. I enjoy feeling seen on a page.
I do marvel when a book is so well written (and well edited) I can just breeze through it as fast as my attention will allow. I could not put this one down! I will even say I usually enjoy a bit more intimacy but honestly I did not miss it here.
The book was funny, breezy but with characters that could be people you would actually know and like. Well most of them any way. I loved the book and was happy to have read it!

🌶️The intimacy scenes are mild.
⏰ I read it in a few days.
